Fluent Lightforms
From movement to flow
PLA, Steel, Motors, LEDs, Microcontroller
Fluent Lightforms is the first incarnation of a long-term research project on emergent dynamic forms. It is a series of kinetic generative light sculptures using temporal/spatial interference patterns (akin to the ancient zootrope principle) to create the persistent illusion of an impossible flow of matter.
Each piece posseses its own singular plastic and dynamic character, inspired mainly by natural biological systems interpreted with a touch of abstract minimalism. When they start spinning, the meeting of sequential time and continuous movement superimposes a virtual trajectory on their material form, revealing a second nature in which they seem to come to life irrevocably.
When several pieces are brought together in the same space, their singular dynamics gradually synchronize to bring forth complex generative choreographies.
They navigate from one metastable equilibrium to the next, collectively reinventing over and over their way of inhabiting space and time.
